Emeritus Professor Dr Nigel Nicholson is an internationally renowned thought leader, writer, speaker and educator in business psychology with a reputation as an innovator in executive development techniques, gaining numerous accolades for his work during his career to date.
During his thirty-year tenure as a Professor at London Business School, he has been an innovator, focusing on placing experience at the heart of leadership development. Examples include Proteus, an innovative leadership programme taking leaders through self-reflection, examination and analysis to reach a deep understanding of themselves in the company of experts from the arts and science disciplines. He is renowned for pioneering the application of the powerful ideas of evolutionary science to the design of organisations, the practice of leadership, human performance, interpersonal relations and corporate culture. As a result, he has consulted for global companies such as Dyson, The Qatar Foundation, and Vodafone and co-created programs for business families; ethics courses for top-level finance leaders; team-building workshops for C-suite executives; and bespoke executive development programmes for leading banks and other businesses.
Originally trained as a journalist, Professor Nicholson has been a columnist for Management Today, Psychology Today (also a broadcaster), Families in Business, and Business Voice throughout his career. His media work includes being invited as a frequent guest on TV and radio broadcasting appearances. Alongside his consulting and research work, he is the author of over 200 academic and practitioner articles and author/editor of over 20 books, including Managing the Human Animal (2000), Traders: Risks, Decisions, and Management in Financial Markets (2005); Family Wars (2006), & The ‘I’ of Leadership: Strategies for seeing, being and doing 2013).
Professor Nicholson has been honoured with Fellowships and awards by many learned societies, and he has been both a licenced psychological test user and a family business consultant for eight years. He was Chairman of the judging panel for JP Morgan’s Honours Programme for the best family businesses in the UK & Ireland and a member of the Institute for Family Business Advisory Board.
He resides in the UK but retains strong links around the world, where he has taught and consulted for many years.
