Prof Dr Peter Verhezen

Professor Peter Verhezen is a Professor of Strategy, Sustainability and Corporate Governance at the University of Antwerp and Antwerp Management School (Belgium).

He was a former award-winning Associate Professor for global corporate governance at the University of Melbourne, an Adjunct Professor at Melbourne Business School (Australia), and a Research Fellow for Governance at the Ash Institute of the Harvard Kennedy School (USA).

Peter built profound expertise and experience as a trainer and coach of top executives and new incoming board members on Governance & Ethics in Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai for the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

He has been a guest speaker and visiting professor at many institutes, including Fudan University and CEIBS in Shanghai, INSEAD Singapore, Singapore Management University, IBS Moscow, Hanoi Banking Institute, the World Bank in Washington, Stockholm University, Budapest Corvinus University, Neoma Business School in France, and Institut Teknologi Bandung, IPMI, Universitas Indonesia, ECGL and UPH in Indonesia.

As Senior Advisory and facilitator of think tank retreats for Paresa Collection, Peter shares his humour, wisdom and insights gained during three and a half decades as a practitioner in deep dialogue with Board members and Senior Leaders interested in Global Governance & Risk Management, Responsible Leadership & Sustainability, Innovative Global Leadership Strategies, Information & Digital Strategy, and Communication Technology.

Peter is an avid reader and writer and published in the field of corporate governance and ethical leadership, business in emerging markets, strategy, and innovative sustainability. Before writing “Making wise decisions”, he published “Gifts, Corruption and Philanthropy. The Ambiguity of Gift Practices in Business” (Oxford, Peter Lang, 2009) and “The Vulnerability of Corporate Reputation. Leadership for Sustainable Long-Term Value” (London, Palgrave, 2015); and co-authored “Is Corporate Governance Relevant in Indonesia?” (2012), “Doing business in ASEAN markets: Leadership challenges and governance solutions across borders” (London, Palgrave MacMillan, 2016) and “The Boardroom. A guide to effective Leadership and good corporate governance in Southeast Asia” (Berlin, De Gruyter, 2022). His latest, “Making Wise Decisions in a Smart World. Responsible Leadership in an era of Artificial Intelligence”, appears in early 2023 (London; Singapore, World Scientific Publishing).

Peter divides his time with his family between Antwerp-Belgium and his second home in Canggu-Bali.
